When the pandemic started, people panicked and flocked to grocery stores to stock up on essentials such as toilet paper, flour, and hand sanitiser. There was a crazy demand for hand sanitiser during this time which led to shortages everywhere. To help meet the sudden demand for hand sanitiser, distilleries began to turn their spirits into hand sanitiser. Government agencies also relaxed their regulations to allow distilleries to quickly produce santiser to meet the public demand. Most distilleries donated their sanitiser to hospitals and care facilities, while other distilleries sold their sanitiser for profit.
The Borders Distillery did its part by making and donating hand sanitizer to the local community of Hawick. In the video below I interviewed one of the co-founders of the distillery, John Fordyce, to learn how our hand sanitizer is made and who it went to.
